Frequently Asked Question
How to submit an individual income tax return?
To submit an individual income tax return in Malaysia, you need to provide the Malaysian Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) with your income and tax payment details. LHDN will use this information to determine whether you are required to pay income tax, and how much tax you owe. However, we can submit the individual tax return either online or offline. Please contact us if you want us to submit your income tax on time.
Do I need to pay tax in Malaysia on my foreign income?
In general, earnings from employment should be taxable in the country where the services are delivered, regardless of the contract’s signing or payment location.
Income acquired in Malaysia from outside Malaysia is tax-free beginning with the Year of Assessment 2004. Any money earned by Malaysian or non-resident taxpayers is taxable (Article 28(1), Schedule 6 of the Income Tax Act 1967). If you have worked outside Malaysia and the job done was connected to your employment there, then your earnings from that work will be taxable in Malaysia.
When to submit an individual income tax return?
The Malaysian Inland Revenue Board (IRB) recommends submitting your individual income tax return by 15 April each year. However, you can still submit your return after this date, but you may be subject to a late submission penalty. For more information, please contact the IRB or visit their website.
